Well, if last years Source Awards weren’t ghetto enough, BET will be broadcasting the ’04 show tonight (November 30). Of course they taped it back in Oct. so it isn’t like most of us don’t already know who did and didn’t win.
The Ying Yang Twins kept up there habit of making noise, as did Lil Jon. However, the show did take over 7 hrs to shoot, so don’t be surprised when the final preformance only shows fans that endured the hell of sitting through hrs of nothing to do, and most artists had already left.
Of course the main award went to Jay-Z for Lyricist of the Year. The Terror Squad and Remy Ma picked up a few awards, with Remy MA also catchin the Best Female Rap Collabo. Terror Squad got single of the year – group for “Lean Back” and YoungBloodz picked up single of the year – collabo for “Damn” feat. Lil Jon.
While Lil Jon and Ludacris made the south’s presence felt, other platnium selling artists like Lil Flip and 36 Mafia were shut out.
The crowd didnt seem to mind the wait between preformances. Lil Wayne and Manny Fresh got the show off to a bang with “GO DJ” and a surprise preformance by Ciara and Petey Pablo looked more like a last minute thing rather than a rehearsed routine. Of course Wacko and Skip feat UTP got the crowd on thier feet with “Nola Clap”, and Akon and Stylez P had everyone putting the fist up and singing along with ” locked up they wont let me out” ..
You couldnt sit in the audience and not here fans yellin out to thier favorite artists. From females yellin they “love trick” and “trick hittem wit a hunny bun” to “Suge, Dont hurt me Suge” when Suge Knight took the stage with Russel Simmons to present Minister Farrakan with an award. Fans pleded with Juve the Great to “” Slow Motion for me Juve”. The fans definitely entertained themselves in between what seemed to last for ever.
It basically ended with the producer and director begging fans to stay and act alive, and promising them all at least 10 seconds of air time to do so. Let’s just see how they edit it.
