Reuters reports 50 Cent’s highly anticipated album ‘Get Rich or Die Tryin” sold a record 872,000 copies its first week in release to enter the pop charts at No. 1 as the music industry’s first smash hit of the year, according to album sales tracker Nielsen SoundScan. 50 Cent’s launch ranks as the biggest opening week for a major-label debut by any recording artist in the SoundScan era, breaking a record previously held by Snoop Dogg, who sold 803,000 copies of ‘Doggystyle’ in its first week.
