‘8 Mile’ Had ‘Concertlike Atmosphere’ At Premiere

Richard Roeper of ‘Ebert & Roeper’ caught the ‘8 Mile’ premiere at the Toronto Film Festival last month and told Blender magazine, “There was more buzz about ‘8 Mile’ than any other film. There are certain moments when peple were applauding in the middle of the movie. It almost had a concertlike atmosphere to it. It’s that kind of movie, a little ‘Rocky’-ish, ‘Saturday Night Fever’-ish.” As for Slim’s Oscar hopes, Roeper says, “ does come with a lot of baggage. But there was a time when people thought Frank Sinatra was just a pop singer. He won an Academy Award.”
