The Baltimore Sun reports that unlike the Black Eyed Peas, Dilated Peoples’ L.A. rap peers, the trio doesn’t plan to dilute its formula for the pop charts. “There’s a lot of stuff I like on the radio but, at the same time, it’s very cookie-cutter,” says Babu, who along with the Alchemist and Evidence, produced the tracks on their latest effort ‘Neighborhood Watch’. “It’s got to be a little more balanced. I remember [hip-hop] being a little more diverse when I was a kid. It still is. Now you got to dig a little deeper for different [stuff].” Read more.
Evidence, Rakaa ‘Iriscience’, and Babu of Dilated Peoples visited MuchMusic in Toronto on March 26th to talk about their new album ‘Neighborhood Watch’, which dropped earlier this month. Asked how they see themselves in the rap game, the group responded, “Bridge builders. You know, we’re bridging a lot of different styles, a lot of different eras, a lot of different things together, but at the same time, you know, we’re not out on any gimmicky- type vibe. We just do what we do. We just try to keep getting better and better at what we do. Yeah, I think– you know, like a lot of people say this is underground rap or this is backpack rap or this is gangsta rap or this pop rap, but I feel with Dilated Peoples, we’re just saying good music is good music. Whether you’re on an independent label or a major, I think it’s going to shine with Dilated.”

Mike Davies of Radio 1 spoke with the guys from Dilated Peoples ahead of an exclusive set they’re doing tonight on the network. Speaking about how the music scene has become much less segregated of late, the group said, “Coming from LA especially we were around a lot of things coming together. People listening to rap, reggae, speed metal and whatever. We’ve toured with Linkin Park and Rage Against The Machine and D’Angelo. The scenes are coming together and it’s dope!'” The entire audio interview and transcript at bbc.co.uk/radio1 has since been removed.
