Plan B ‘Ill Manors’ Video

Plan B rap

(aka Ben Drew) is out with the music video to his new single ‘Ill Manors’, the track which recently debuted at #6 on the UK singles chart. Inspired by last summer’s UK riots, ‘Ill Manors’ is the first single from ’s upcoming rap album that will also serve as the soundtrack to the feature film ‘Ill Manors’, due out later this year on Atlantic Records.

Ben’s official statement on the inspiration of ‘Ill Manors’:

The world, and this country especially, is full of contradictions. I’m just highlighting them, I’m not condoning anything. I aired my feelings about the riots very publicly when they happened and I still feel the same way.

What happened in Tottenham in some ways I can understand but what happened everywhere else in the country was opportunism. I won’t justify it because I don’t agree with it. In fact it upset me so much I want to change it, so I wrote this song to bring the issue back to the forefront of public conversation. I feel it has been swept under the carpet and forgotten about, and it still needs to be properly addressed.

Since the riots happened I haven’t heard enough people within the public sector asking the two most important questions; ‘why did it happen and how can we prevent it from happening again?’ I do have a theory as to why and how but first I need to make my point. And I’ve chosen satire to do so.

The point being made in my song ‘ill Manors’ is that society needs to take some responsibility for the cause of these riots. Why are there so many kids in this country that don’t feel they have a future, or care about having a criminal record?

I think one of the reasons is that there is a very public prejudice in this country towards the underclass. These kids are ridiculed in the press as they aren’t as educated as others, because they talk and dress in a certain way… but they’re not as stupid as people think. They are aware of the ill feelings towards them and that makes them feel alienated. I know because I felt it myself growing up. These kids have been beaten into apathy. They don’t care about society because society has made it very clear that it doesn’t care about them.

An example of this is the word ‘chav’ that means council housed and violent, a derogatory phrase that is openly used by certain sectors of middle England to label and define people from poor backgrounds. It’s a derogatory phrase no different in my opinion to the ones concerning race or sex. The difference is that the papers use it publicly. If they did the same with racial or sexist derogatory terms it would be deemed, and rightly so, as offensive and politically incorrect.

That in my opinion is hypocrisy.

If you’re born into a family that’s has enough money to educate you properly, you are privileged. You’re not better than anyone else you’re just lucky. Certain sectors of middle England, not all of them, but the ignorant ones need to wake up and realize that …and stop ridiculing the poor and less fortunate. That is what this song is about.

Apathy ‘Stop What Ya Doin’ Ft. Celph Titled

Apathy is out with the music video to his new single ‘Stop What Ya Doin’, featuring . The track is off the Willimantic, Connecticut rapper’s third album ‘Honkey Kong’, out now on Dirty Version Records.

Apathy quote: “When I started to make ‘Honkey Kong’ I knew I wanted to make a hardcore, classic hip-hop album. I grew up listening to Gang Starr, Wu-Tang, EPMD… and so on. So when this album started coming together and I started working with dudes who I grew up studying and idolizing; like Preem, Muggs, Beatminerz, Steele, Mad Lion that made all the bullshit of the industry worth it to me. Working with DJ Premier, is personally the most important point in my career. He’s my favorite producer of all time–hands down. Everyone who contributed to Honkey Kong killed it and definitely brought their ‘A’ game.”

Bow Wow Talks Cash Money Collaborations

Bow Wow

spoke with MTV UK in a Q&A, where the rapper was asked about whether fans can expect collaborations with his Cash Money labelmates Nicki Minaj and Drake anytime soon. “Yeah, most definitely. I already worked with Nicki, but it was something for one of my mixtapes, this was before she was even signed with Young Money,” explained. “We did this freestyle called ‘Kiss My Ass’, but of course expect her on my album, expect Wayne on the album also. Me, Snoop Dogg, and Fabolous got this record called ‘Cuff Your Chick’ that I’m going to release in the next few weeks, we about to shoot the video for that in like a week. I’m going to shoot the video with my boy Rico, so it’s going to be big. It’s all about keeping it popping, so you already know I’m going to work with everybody. This album is going to be totally different, I hollered at the big homie, , I’m going to be working with him, and I even spoke to my big homie, . We recently chopped it up in Atlanta and were trying to come up with an idea and theme for the song. So as you can tell just by the names I’m mentioning, where I’m trying to go with this album. It’s going to be different from anything you’ve ever heard from me before.” Read more.

Talib Kweli Recalls First Meeting Kanye West

Talib Kweli forest

spoke with MTV News about working with on his 2002 album ‘Quality’, and how Kanye was the same guy back then as he is now. “When I first met Kanye, he was humble and arrogant at the same time, which means that he humbled himself to me, and Common and wanted to sign to Rawkus,” Kweli explained. “And he would come to the shows and studio sessions and soak it up. But he would soak it up and also at the same time be like, ‘I’m the best rapper out. I’m the best-dressed rapper out.’ Even back then, he would be [like], ‘I’m the best-dressed rapper,’ and he didn’t even have a deal. You not even a rapper yet. How you the best-dressed rapper, you know?”

Kanye West Apologizes To Taylor Swift: “I Bled Hard”

Kanye West tiles

checked in with his Twitter followers (@kanyewest) this morning to talk about the fallout from last year’s MTV Video Music Awards, where he walked on stage to grab the microphone from Taylor Swift to talk about how Beyonce should have won Best Female Video. Kanye also apologized to Taylor and added her as the second person he followed on Twitter in addition to Justin Bieber. In a series of several dozen Tweets, Kanye said:

Man I love Twitter… I’ve always been at the mercy of the press but no more… The media tried to demonize me

They wanted yall to believe I was a monster in real life so you guys wouldn’t listen or buy my music anymore

I feel like they were waiting for the opportunity to go in all the way on me and when it came they beat me to a pulp

Even now a lot of articles start there first 2 paragraphs about how much of an asshole I am

I accept the idea (ideal) that perception is reality

When I say perception is reality I mean whatever you think is the truth… is your truth

Some people’s truth is Kanye is racist… It’s not my truth but I do believe it’s my Karma…. walk with me…

Even though the NBC telethon was widely praised yall didn’t think they was just gone let me get away with that did yall???!!!

With the help of strong will, a lack of impathy, a lil alcohol and extremely distasteful & bad timing … I became George Bush over night

How deep is the scar… I bled hard.. cancelled tour with the number one pop star in the world … closed the doors of my clothing office

Had to let employees go… for the first time I felt the impact of my brash actions … I felt the recession from an ownership side

People booed when I would go to concerts and the performer mentioned my name.

Remember in Anchor Man when Ron Burgandy cursed on air and the entire city turned on him? But this wasn’t a joke. This was & is my real life

There are people who don’t dislike me… they absolutely hate me!

I feel it. The stuff I’m writing down, the directions that I’m thinking about going into.
