Chuck D Discusses Obama’s Victory, Disgust With MTV
Beat magazine spoke with Chuck D just days after the election of Barack Obama as the 44th U.S. President, where the Public Enemy star talked about his thoughts about the historic victory and if he thought it would happen. “I think that America has made the first step in trying to show that it means more to take action then to just put words on paper,” Chuck D explained. “I never had any expectations and just like everyone else in the world – we’ve never seen America do anything like this in its history which shows that this would happen; I mean white man as a repressor hasn’t shifted from that role, not even a white woman has had the chance. I thought that it was going to be history anyway once Obama was nominated but I didn’t think that this was going to be the step that America took, declaring to the world that it was gonna be ‘the place’ where most countries would look up too. That was always the problem.”
