50 Cent And Others Arrested After Vibe Awards
Contributed Anonymously:
According to K-Sly of 100.3 The Beat, 50 Cent was arrested after the Vibe Awards erupted in violence last night. As most of you know, Dr. Dre was attacked backstage right before he was supposed to recieve his “Lifetime Achievement Award”! The G-Unit was also backstage and if you know 50, you know he doesn’t play around when it comes to things like this. When 50 saw what was going on, he jumped in and according to eye-witnesses, he was literally beating down two men at the same time, then moved on to another. 50 was caught on tape so later into the night, the police show up during the show, handcuff 50 and others who were involved in the violence and take them. Now of course this caused even more drama! When people saw 50 was being arrested, there was a huge comotion and of course people started yelling 50’s slogan (G-g-g-g Unit) to show their support for 50. At the end of the night, 5 people were seriously hurt (3 of them hurt by 50) and one person was stabbed (it’s rumored that it was someone associated with G-Unit). Let’s just hope 50 doesn’t get charged with anything, seeing as he was acting in self-defense (but we all saw what happened to Shyne. He acted in self defense and now he’s doing time).
From Rap Buzz To Bust
Jim Farber of the New York Daily News profiled the trouble Mase and Shyne experienced in album sales with their latest efforts, ‘Welcome Back’ and ‘Godfather Buried Alive’. Farber noted that both rappers’ material seemed behind the times, Shyne do to his incarceration and Mase do to being away from hip hop for so long and questions about his credibility.
Mase’s Older Way Of Thinking
Jamie Foster Brown of Sister 2 Sister magazine caught up with Mase and asked the rapper about how he acts like he’s in his 40s. “People always tell me I act like a young, grown man,” Mase admitted. “I’ve grown up around older people, so I just have an older way of thinking….from people knowing my story about how I grew up and how I had 11 friends and 10 of them were killed, all at the same time…it just always put me on a different page. I’ve seen so much that it was like, you might as well just have fun. I totally understood that it was no coincidence how, when I was little, my mom sent me to Florida and I ended up coming back [home to Harlem]. I was just always at the right place at the right time. Even in meeting Puff…. I was in Atlanta but I’m not from Atlanta. Even with leaving music and seeing what happened to Shyne [Shyne was imprisoned after he and Puffy were involved in a shooting]. I really believed in my heart that that was my seat, but because I was able to see something that nobody else saw, it made sense when that happened. Like, ‘wow, that would’ve been me. I’m Puff’s ace, so that would’ve been my gun’.” The full story at s2smagazine.com has since been removed.
Def Jam Finds Shyne’s Crime Doesn’t Pay
The LA Times profiled Shyne’s disappointing sales for ‘Godfather Buried Alive’, which has only cleared 354,000 copies since its August 10th release. Def Jam spent more than $4 million to sign, record and market ‘Godfather’, sources said. Based on sales figures compiled by Nielsen SoundScan, the company has recovered about $1.3 million of that investment. High-level sources at Def Jam said they didn’t expect the record to pick up steam at this point and were prepared to abandon the project.
