Bad Economy Leads To Revival Of Gangsta Rap

Rashaun Hall, rap editor of Billboard magazine spoke with Chris Riemenschneider of the Minneapolis Star Tribune on the revival of gangsta rap which he believes is a sign of economic times. “There’s definitely been a return to more hard-core lyrics and lifestyle,” Hall said. “Unlike the [late ’90s], when the economy was doing well, people today are hurting, and they don’t want to hear just the bling-bling party songs anymore. When people are down, so is the music.”
