Beastie Boys’ Grand Royal Records Shuts Down
Grand Royal Records, the label launched by the Beastie Boys in 1993, shut down on Friday because of mounting debts, decreasing assets, and exceedingly harsh industry conditions.
Mike D told Launch.com “This is one of the most difficult decisions we’ve ever had to make. Over the years the Grand Royal family has grown to include some of the most talented musicians and staff in the business. It’s tragic that the same growth has also provided an overhead and infrastructure that can no longer [be] viable.”
Artists that have been on the label include Scapegoat Wax, Luscious Jackson, Ben Lee, Sean Lennon, BS 2000, and Atari Teenage Riot.
