The smooth R&B sound of the Black Eyed Peas new hit ‘Where is the Love?’ has brought the group a wider audience, but has also brought them cries of sellout from the hip-hop underground. “I don’t see how doing a smooth R&B song is bad,” Peas MC Will.I.Am told Mary Dickie of the Toronto Sun, echoing bandmate Taboo’s remarks to Nashville City Paper on the same contention. “I mean, people say it sounds like we’ve gone soft. Well, what’s it supposed to sound like? Is every song supposed to be hard and angry? Is every song supposed to have some sort of negative reference to materialism or sexism? Is that what makes it good?”
