Compared to their male peers, The Black Eyed Peas have struck a balance in their hip-hop with less macho posturing, for a start – and will.i.am (aka William Adams) tells Australia’s Beat magazine that he believes that this is because they were all raised by women. “The three of us have one thing in common in that we don’t have any fathers – we were all raised by our mothers and our aunts and grandmas,” he said. “There’s been no male role in our upbringing – if you wanna break it down, that’s the truth. Tab don’t have a dad, neither does apl and neither do I. We have very strong mothers.”
