Black Market Breaks
Mark B of the BBC’s Radio 1 hosted a half hour documentary earlier today on hip hop sampling called ‘Black Market Breaks’. In the documentary Bubba Sparxxx and Ja Rule admit to knowing shamefully little about what they’re rapping over, and how New York break traders get top dollar out of Timbaland. This is some pretty insightful stuff, with some questionable sampling examples by Dr. Dre, Eminem, and Sean ‘P. Diddy’ Combs, amongst others. The documentary at bbc.co.uk/radio1 has since been removed.
