The Ru Report previewed the release of ‘Brown Sugar’ this weekend and asked one of the film’s stars, Boris Kodjoe, about the hip hop themed love story. “So if it wasn’t hip-hop and it was an alternative movie, would it still work?,” he asked. “It’s not about hip-hop, it’s not about Blacks. It’s not about all of that. This movie could be in the forties. It’s a traditional love story with very well, fleshed out characters and a very well written script. The movie would work in any other genre, and any other cast. Everybody could relate, everybody could identify with what they’re going through. It’s not because people bounce to the music that the movie makes sense to them.”
