Rappers Talk Ahead Of Tonight’s Grammy Awards

DMC of Run-DMC spoke about the origin of ‘Walk this Way’ while Coolio talked about what kind of topics fans want him to rap about and being proud to be a PG rapper. Eminem Was OK With Jon Stewart’s Gay Joke

Jon Stewart spoke on Grammy.com about his hosting job last year that had him joke that he met Eminem backstage and he was really gay. Jon answered when asked if Eminem kicked his ass for the comment: “Not that I’m aware of. I think the guy’s got a pretty good sense of humor. I think I just got his autograph and that was about the end of it. Signed a baseball, and I was done.”

Holla! Ja Rule & OutKast Added To Grammy Lineup

Bob Dylan; Outkast; ‘Lady Marmalade’ featuring Christina Aguilera, Lil’ Kim, Mya, Pink and Missy Elliott; and Joshua Bell are the latest confirmed performers for the 44th Annual Grammy Awards telecast set for February 27 at Staples Center in Los Angeles, it was announced today by Michael Greene, President/CEO of the Recording Academy. Afroman Grammy Nod Puzzles BET Music Editor


Steve Jones of USA Today profiled the hip-hop acts nominated in this year’s Grammys and spoke with BET.com music editor Tonya Pendleton about some of the nominations she was puzzled by. Tonya said,”I’m gratified with the diversity of the R&B and hip-hop nominations, but I do wonder who could have voted for Afroman” since it “was a novelty record at best.” She seemed to favor OutKast and Jay-Z to get the wins on January 27. Rap Overshadowed For R&B At Soul Train Music Awards

Alicia Keys lead the pack with four nominations for the 16th annual Soul Train Music Awards. Other than Jay-Z, the top nominees all are R&B artists. Other rappers getting nods included Bubba Sparxxx, Ja Rule, and Busta Rhymes. The awards ceremony will be held March 20 at the Los Angeles Sports Arena.

Dr. Dre The Only Rap Act Getting Brit Award Nomination

Another year where hip-hop music was largely ignored by the Brit Awards as the most prestigious UK music awards of the year announced nominations on Monday. Puffy Says No More To Hosting Awards Shows

Sean ‘P. Diddy’ Combs talked with Access Hollywood’s Tony Potts about his American Music Awards hosting performance and he said with relief, “I made it. I made it out, baby.” When asked if he’d do it again, Puff Daddy said, “No, not going to do it again. That was it. You might as well get the Tivo. That was it.”

Spin Names Jay-Z Best Rapper

Jay-Z was selected in the Spin Magazine Year In Music 2001 as Best Rapper. The mag said following the events of September 11, “Jay-Z had toned down the big pimpin’, using his prodigious rhyme skills to paint a compellingly introspective picture of his life and times. Not a moment too soon.”
