Ice T No Fan Of ‘American Idol’
Ice-T was on Last Call with Carson Daly on Tuesday where he gave his thoughts on ‘American Idol’, and it wasn’t kind. Ice-T was especially tough on the show’s runner-up Justin Guarini… He must’ve been watching though. Read on for a transcript.
Carson: I wanted to ask you about — you’re the perfect person to ask
about this craze of “American Idol” that has been sweeping our country.
Ice-T: Oh, lord.
[ Laughter ]
Carson: What does Ice-T think of “American Idol”?
Ice-T: I don’t know. That show really made me sick, you know what I’m
saying? I really couldn’t stand it. [ Laughter ] [ Cheers and applause
] It really made me sick. It kind of reminded me of —
Carson: Ice-t needs to learn how to come out of his shell a little bit
more. [ Laughter ] Tell me what you really think. Don’t hold back.
Ice-T: It felt like the talent portion of a beauty contest. Like, you
know, like you have beauty contestants, and you say, “do you have a talent?”
And then people try to do things. I knew kelly was gonna win. I knew she
had the most singing talent. She had the strongest voice, but I thought
justin was gonna win because I hated that kid so much — [ Laughter ] —
That I just knew that he probably would be the “american idol.”
Carson: Why did you hate him so much? Just ’cause of the music that
he did up there? The way he looked?
Ice-T: Everything.
Carson: Everything.
Ice-T: Everything out him. [ Laughter ] He just seems like the kind
of guy that would bump into you on the street, and you just wouldn’t let
that pass. You could smack him. [ Laughter and applause ] Anybody else,
you’d be, like, “it’s all right, man.” Give him once, “don’t bump into
me. Not in that shirt, dude.” [ Laughter ] Got to hit him.
