Jay-Z Film Was Originally To Be Just A DVD

Jay-Z tells Radio 1 he originally had no plans on turning his Madison Square Garden just after he announced his retirement from recording into a film. “We knew something special was going to happen that night – we was going to shoot a DVD,” he explained. “But, then we watched the first fifteen minutes and we knew it was bigger than just a concert film, that it was a journey of a young kid from Brooklyn to the biggest stage in the world – that just said ‘film’.”
