Kanye West tells The New York Post that when he accepted honors at Londell MacMillan’s annual Artist Empowerment Coalition pre-Grammy brunch, he deadpanned for the crowd that artists should be paid for the magazine covers that drive subscriptions and advertising revenue. “This is my whole thing,” West explained. “I didn’t say I should get paid,’ I said ‘We should get paid.’ That’s putting words in my mouth. Also notice the word ‘should.’ That’s not a demand or an ultimatum. The media needs to take responsibility for quoting me correctly, because I put a lot of thought into what I say.”
