Lil’ Kim’s Muslim Insulting One World Cover Under Fire

AllHipHop.com reports Najee Ali, the National Director of Project Islamic H.O.P.E., is furious with Lil’ Kim and Russell Simmons for the December/January 2003 cover of Simmons’ One World Magazine. The cover features Lil Kim wearing a Maroon burka-like head piece, the traditional head covering for Muslim women. “That this magazine ran with Lil Kim on the cover like this, is totally unacceptable” Ali said. “Russell Simmons has stood with Louis Farrakhan and had him host Hip Hop Meetings for peace. Does he want to build bridges with the men of Islam, but disrespect the women? I don’t think so. It is part of every Muslim man’s duty to defend the integrity of the women in our community. They need to apologize immediately, as there is no justification for this whatsoever.”

How ridiculous. Lil Kim looked beautiful and that Islamic style garment looked exotic and was artistically thought provoking. People need to stop with the immediate offenses and with being so closed minded, it’s as preposterous as someone being outraged because a teenager drew a picture of Muhammed in his notebook. Please, we in the United States, all of our backgrounds are subject to social and public criticism and commentary, and we can be objective about it, hell we can even laugh it off, it’s not the end of the world.

Lil Kim was not attacking anyone. It is artistic expression. Najee Ali needs to relax.

I’m sorry to tell you but Lil Kim blatantly meant it to be offensive, she later went on to say “FU** AFGHANISTAN” And that isn’t something you should just laugh off.
