LL Cool J Disappointed With Projected ‘Exit 13’ Sales

checked in with fans on his blog at MySpace (@llcoolj) on Tuesday (September 9), where the veteran rapper was sounding disappointed with sales projections for his just released album ‘Exit 13’. LL writes:

60 thousand the first week ?

What’s up!!! So LA reid told me I’m on track to do 60 thousand the first week. I think the album is hotter than that. 300k the first week material at least. I guess the world disagrees. Anyway I love y’all and hope you enjoy it. Those of you who bought it, Much love!!! Remember LLCOOLJ LOVES YOU!!! IT IS WHAT IT IS. I hoped it would do better. didn’t you?

EXIT 13 = classic. I can’t front though it’s disappointing.

I have been a fan since the beginning and will be picking this one up as well. The bi thing now is that these young kids are getting into all the garbage rap that is out now. I am 43 and listen to all types of music. The biggest problem for artists like LL cool J is that we are spending money on our kids these days not on ourselves, which is hurting the artists we grew up with and are still banging out hit! I only wish you could get to these younger kids then we as parents would be buying your CD’s for them which would increase your sales big time. Think about it! The kids control everything we spend money on. Do not hang it up yet LL you still make banging hits. Let me know what label you are going to.

LL I you have real talent, I have not picked this one up yet, but you have to realize that rap has change it seems like no one respects the real hip hop music. You are a great rapper I do not always agree with you production selection, I am still waiting on the hunger LL, I’m Bad, Radio, Go Cut Creator, Booming System. The list goes on and on. I think if people do not respect a group Like Lil Brother in these days and times hip hop is truly dead. Keep writing your lyrics but go back to your heart……………

Using or going at Jay Z around album time has not proven to be a good move on any rappers part with exception to Nas Stillmatic. Ask Jim Jones, Camron, Mobb Deep, or even The Game ( to a certain degree because I like that album). LL needs to stop making excuses for poor record sales because it had nothing to do with marketing. his time has passed and hes not a multi platinum artist anymore. I’ll buy the album though and I’ll say its good but Jay is going to destroy him in a few months.

  5. MASE says:

WHO YOU GONNA BLAME NOW? YOU WOULD HAVE SOLD THE SAME THING WITH LESS MARKETING..THAT’S WHY YOU WERE NEVA EVEN CONSIDERED FOR A TOP POSITION AT ANY LABEL..YOU THROWING SHOTS AT HOV, WHICH WAS SILLY..THEN YOU SAY 50 IS INSPIRING BUT NAS IS A NEW CAT..HOW STUPID WAS THAT..YOU ARE TOO OLD TO HATE LL..GIVE CREDIT TO THE REAL G.O.A.T(HOV) AND MAYBE JUST MAYBE YOUR SH** WOULD HAVE DONE BETTER..YOU OWE SOME PAPER BACK TO DEF JAM HOMIE..OH..HOV GOT A ALBUM COMING OUT..YOU GOT A HEAD SHOT COMING

  6. Cut Master Divine AKA Hakeem says:

To all Big (REAL) Hip-Hop fans out there….THIS ALBUM IS A STRAIGHT BANGER!!!!! CLASSIC. This album still has a lil love type songs on it, but it has a lot more Block Sh** on it….Hip-Hop heads old and young need to go out there and buy the album and pay homage to the GOAT…..And 2 the hatting blogger Mase who riding Jay-Z’s cock hard…..Yo, Jigga the one who backed down to LL. No Pun intended to Jigga, who is also one of my favorites and is one of the greatest. But the simple fact is there’s only one Goat and that’s LL….24 years, about 30 million album sales, Grammys, Music awards, numerous #1 hits, great lyrical ability, battle rapper, rapper who made that hood love cool, swagger, movies, TV shows, books, Lady is young and old all on his jock, Thousands of sold out concerts…..etc. …Damn!!….can’t argue that.

  8. Cream says:

Good CD. Unfortunately people are limited and allow radio and the youth to tell them what is hot. People say he does not rap hungry? 10 Million Stars off the 10 album is just that. But the label only releases the love stuff which is all good but brothers forgot the album cuts have always been real.

  9. painkiller says:

Are you kidding man, 5th album in a row landing in the top 10.
it got a special attention for that.
You are only disappointed because it didn’t do as well as your own expectations, the album did great, no reason for disappointment. This album is gonna go platinum just wait and see.

  10. Big Walt says:

I don’t care how many albums L sells. The way you can tell good music is if it does not get old after the first couple of plays and you can play it again and again. That is a good album and this is what exit 13 is.
Anyone who tells you different is just hating on L for whatever reason but give credit where credit is due.

  11. Maxlove says:

I think the album is hot. There’s something in there for everybody. I listened to every track and not in one track did it mention Jay Z so post no4 hater “Mase” needs to fall back. LL made the major contribution towards building Def Jam and hip hop to what it is today. He was the first rapper to wear gold, diamonds and pop the bottle cork. The 24 years of music speaks for itself. I think the sales are down to Radio play. That’s where def jam needs to focus its marketing. Also it needs to up its Internet Marketing. Even out in the UK I’ve hardly heard Tim Westwood drop any of LL’s songs. Soulja boy and little Wayne is what I’m hearing. Radio play will be a critical factor and I hope some of these DJ’s stand up for real hip hop.

  12. THEONE says:

YO this cat is the G.O.A.T! I can’t front though his mix tape was more commercial. He should have just dropped that as the album if he was concerned about sales. People don’t understand real HIP HOP anymore. JAY-Z wouldn’t have a career if it wasn’t for LL the dude is rapping about what L was saying years ago peep game.

  13. Rage says:

YO got he CD, it is BANGING . The beats are nuts and lyrically you can hear how much time he did put in the CD so I recommend this CD for any real hip hop fans for sure.

  14. GOAT fan 101 says:

Alright I picked this up and I wasn’t expecting too much but it really is … like ll says classic, the tracks are hot lyrically inclined classy, sexy, energetic and just cool and anyone can listen to them I am actually amazed at how this album hasn’t done all that well in sales I was expecting at least a million on the first week but yeah I guess nowadays very few artists do that well but shout out to big L you killed it on this one man and no matter what anyone says this album was true proof that LL is and always will be the GOAT.

  15. Lo Lite says:

LL is one of the realist MC’s out there. Rap has fallen hard. A true hip-hop, music fan can tell that a lot of hard work was put into this album. LL showed versatility; he took it with an old school flow, went south on a track, went conscious politically, kept his traditional smooth swag for the ladies. As a fan, there are certain songs I questioned that are singles. But that’s what these record labels throw out there. “Dear Hip-Hip”, in my opinion was the best track. People forget how highly LL has impacted hip-hop, there’s artist now that won’t battle LL. LL is the G.O.A.T.!!!!! (Only a Few People Know who won that battle between LL and Hov) Who you think????

  16. ANTONY says:

I love the album, one of his best!, been down with LL since 85-radio. He is & always will be a true legend in the game. Mase can eat a di** straight up!! Hating on LL what the fu** is wrong with you monkey, go listen to your Soulja bitch CD, 13 albums & still going strong!! Next album should be a double greatest hits CD!! WORD!!

  17. DC says:

Exit 13 was hot, enough said.

  18. Styles says:

Everybody except for the hater crew was right. LL dropped the best CD and it was a classic. It should’ve easily went gold the first week. It’s just more proof that people want to listen to crap rather than classics.
