LL Cool J’s Kids Book Will Help Them Acquire Literacy

Oliver Burkeman of The Guardian says ’s collaboration with Scholastic, ‘And The Winner Is’, is hoped to help kids learn like a modern-day Dr Seuss. “In hip-hop, conversation becomes a kind of music and the beat pulls you towards trying new things,” said Jurgen Streeck, who teaches the language of rap at the University of Texas. “You discover new meanings, and that happens a lot in children’s poetry, too. When you listen to four-year-olds talking to themselves, they can be observed making these discoveries, and some people argue that children’s spontaneous rhyming is a very helpful precursor to them acquiring literacy.” Read more.
