M.I.A. Didn’t Change, Just The Attention Paid To ‘Kala’ Did
M.I.A. appeared on ‘The Hour’, talking with host George Stroumboulopoulos about her new album ‘Maya’ and being too busy to notice when her hit ‘Paper Planes’ gained widespread popularity, because a 25-year-old civil war was coming to an end in her country. “It was really quiet,” the artist said about the time of ‘Kala’ was released. “People still went out and bought like whatever the Katy Perry of that time was. Now everyone’s saying, ‘Oh my God, the album was so great, what happened to you?’ Nothing’s changed. I’ve made the same sh** all the time. It’s based on what I’m going through.” Watch the interview clip via YouTube below.
