Memphis White Rappers Boosted From Eminem Success

Bill Ellis of GoMemphis.com says in Memphis, at least, white performers who rap aren’t trying to cash in on ’s crossover appeal. They’d be doing it even if the dope Detroit lyricist never existed. “I gotta say Eminem did pave the way,” says the Jerk (Mike Riehl, 22). “Ever since he started selling records like he did and being a big star, there’s been a lot of white rappers getting in, some of them good some, some of them terrible.” Offers Chopper Girl (Holland Taylor, 28): “When people compare you to Eminem, you’re really glad they’re not saying Vanilla Ice.”
