Ann-Marie Nicholson of Essence.com spoke with Mos Def about whether his recent moves to Broadway with ‘Top Dog/Under Dog’ and his Black Jack Johnson band may leave his hip hop fans feeling betrayed. Mos Def insists, “I’m not concerned with that at all, because I have a responsibility to myself first. I can only devote so much time to what people got to say,” adding “I’m not motivated by money or fame. Everything I put out, I can live with it. I’m not even concerned with people liking it. What I want more than anything, is not people’s love or admiration, but their respect.”
