N.E.R.D. Has A Hard Time Getting Heard
The New York Daily News reports part of the problem with N.E.R.D. and their latest album ‘Fly or Die’, has to do with the kind of radio segmentation the group was formed to smash. The album’s first single ‘She Wants to Move’, like much of N.E.R.D.’s work, falls between formats, taking as many rock influences as R&B. In fact, N.E.R.D. presents what amounts to a new genre: punk-soul. Creatively, it’s a bold move, but commercially, it’s been a bomb, selling only 282,000 copies in the 7 weeks it has been out.
