OutKast Dominate Rap Nominations

Well it appears OutKast’s worry about having such an early entry into this year’s Grammy nominations would have a negative effect was all for not, as the group earned five nominations for the 44th annual Grammy Awards, to be handed out February 27 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Other rappers included in the nominations were Ja Rule, DMX, Jay-Z, Nelly, and Eve. Read on for a full list of hip hop related nominations.

Everyone Scared To Ask O.J. To Be In Video

Launch.com spoke with Ludacris about the rapper’s move to have football great & double murderer O.J. Simpson to appear in the video for the song “Fatty Girl.” The rapper explained, “I went up to the director, Hype Williams, and said, ‘Man, we gotta get this n-gga in this video somewhere, for real!’ Everybody was scared to ask him. And I was like, ‘Why y’all scared to ask this man to get in the video?’ So he was like, ‘Hell yeah, let’s do it.’ It’s a ridiculous video.”

Outkast Opens Very Weak

OutKast’s latest effort, Big Boi & Dr. Dre Present, debuted miserably in the latest album charts on Hits Daily Double. For the week, the group sold only 93,834 putting it at a pathetic #30 in the charts. Rap was thin atop the charts with Ludacris dropping to #9 and Busta Rhymes dropping to #19, while Ja Rule dropped to #24. Fat Joe debuted at #35 with 79,000 sales of Jealous Ones Still Envy. Nate Dogg opened at #40 with Music & Me.

Fat Joe Track Listing

MTV talked to Fat Joe ahead of the release of his upcoming disc Jealous Ones Still Envy (J.O.S.E.), due December 4. Joe admits, “When [Big Pun] passed away, I heard all types of rumors, people doubting me. Everyone was acting like it was over for Joe, so I went in the studio, closed the door, and came back to that zone where Jealous One’s Envy was at, but I had to bring it back 2001 style.” Read on for a track listing, including his all-star company on the album.

Atlantans In The R&B And Rap Community Struggle With Aaliyah Tragedy

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution talked to several in the R&B and rap community for comments on the tragic death of Aaliyah on Saturday as her plane crashed shortly after takeoff in the Bahamas.

Monica said, “I don’t even know what to make of this right now. Her brother and her were close, like me and my brother. And when I think of what her mother must be going through — it scares me.”
