The New York Post reports Russell Simmons’ friends on the political left are slamming him as a traitor after the music mogul focused his fierce wealth, fat connections and exhausting gift for rapid-fire chat toward one goal: overturning New York’s harsh Rockefeller-era drug laws. “If they’re angry with me, I’m sorry,” Simmons said of his lefty pals. “If they keep talking about the laws, the laws will change. I didn’t do this for me. I didn’t do this for Shelly Silver. I did this for the people in jail and for the people facing jail. I’m much more interested in having a better relationship with God than with the Democratic Party.”
