The New York Daily News reports conservative commentator Tucker Carlson of CNN, who traveled to Africa with the Rev. Al Sharpton in July, writes in the new issue of Esquire: “During a speech at the W.E.B. DuBois center in Accra [Ghana],” Sharpton “all but denounced hip-hop culture and the ‘irrelevant Negroes’ it produces. ‘DuBois didn’t come here to teach Ghanaians how to break-dance or call their grandmother “bitch,”‘ Sharpton said.” Sharpton’s rep responded yesterday, “Tucker’s interpretation of Rev. Sharpton’s relationship with members of the hip-hop community isn’t always accurate.”
