100.3 The Beat of Los Angeles held their 11th summer jam on August 7 at The Forum in Inglewood, CA. Performers included 50 Cent (who was the headliner), G-Unit, Lil Flip, Mase (in his first ever performance since returning to the rap game), Houston, Chingy, Mario Winans, Monica, J-Kwon, and the Ying Yang Twins.
This was my 3rd year attending The Beat’s Summer Jam and I have to say it was one of the best show I’ve seen, aside from the Ying Yang Twins, who were constantly making annoying noises. That was very frustrating, being next to the speaker and having them screaming into their microphones. Other than that, everyone had decent performances, but it was obvious that the crowd was saving their energy for the headliner, 50 Cent. It was evident that once 50 got on stage, he was the one people were waiting to see, and he did not disappoint.
First the lights dimmed, then the next thing we hear is 50 chanting his trade-mark G G G G-Unit! That’s when the crowd went into a frenzy as people started pushing to get to the front of the stage. It was a bit hectic and a few people got hurt, but not seriously. 50 performed a medley of songs from his album and many songs from his mixtapes. His set was originally supposed to be an hour, however, the crowd was so into it that the producers of Summer Jam allowed 50 to go on longer. He never slowed down throughout the whole show. His energy and charisma stole the show. Even when the rest of G-Unit (Lloyd Banks, Young Buck, and Game) joined him on stage, all eyes were still on 50 Cent. All the ladies marveling at his unbelievably built physique and all the men chanting every word of the songs along with him. When you watched 50 performing and interacting with the crowd, you understood why he is the star, and a bright star at that. It was truly a memorable night, thanks to one man.
