MTV News reports Outkast’s Andre 3000 has just signed on to star in a film that will begin production in September. The film is a love story along with racial and class issues during the mid 1970’s. Andre will also be one of the film’s producers. Read more.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Andre 3000 of OutKast is developing a potential series project with Cartoon Network. The musician is hashing out ideas for a half-hour special pegged for the cable channel’s ‘Adult Swim’ block. If Andre 3000 and Cartoon — both based in Atlanta — are happy with the results, the channel will greenlight the special for series treatment. Read more.
Andre 3000 of OutKast says that when it comes to voting, he’s been negligent, but things will be different this November. “Stuff came up,” the 28-year-old, whose real name is Andre Benjamin, told The Atlanta Journal Constitution. “I was out of town, I couldn’t see how my vote would matter. It just wasn’t that important to me.”

Andre 3000 of Outkast spoke with MTV News about his starring role in the biopic of guitar great Jimi Hendrix. “The Jimi Hendrix project is on its way,” Andre promised last week on the set of ‘Be Cool’, the sequel to the 1995 mob comedy ‘Get Shorty’. “I’ve actually been trying to do this for four or five years,” he said. “So I’ve read biographies, seen every documentary, seen every performance.” Read more.
The Glasgow Daily Record reports Andre 3000 of Outkast has revealed actor Leonardo DiCaprio is in awe of his ability to pick up women, despite Leo’s string of supermodel conquests, including his current girlfriend Gisele Bundchen. “He helped me understand that when you’re in film you’re just this figure, but when you do music you go out, do signings and concerts,” Dre said. “You interact with people, they can touch you. Rock stars get most action on the road, going to different cities and grabbing girls. When does a movie star do that?”
The Sun reports Andre 3000 of Outkast is moving to New York to study music at the highly-respected Juilliard School. “There’s so much energy in New York and it excites you because you can’t really sit around and not do anything. I need new scenery and to be around new people,” he said. “Since I’m not touring with the album I know I’m going to have a lot of time on my hands so I’m trying to get into the Juilliard. I want to go to school and study music. Right now I’m into simplifying and learning.” Read more.
Outkast’s Andre 3000 tells The New York Daily News he’s ready to give his full measure to the role of Jimi Hendrix in a movie directed by Albert and Allen Hughes. Andre has no pretensions about being able to mimic Hendrix’s lightning fretwork. “I won’t do my own guitar playing,” he said. “It will probably be someone who knows Jimi’s style inside and out.”
