will.i.am Discusses ‘Boom Boom Pow’ & ‘I Gotta Feeling’ Origins

Black Eyed Peas frontman will.i.am revealed to Billboard.com the origins of ‘Boom Boom Pow’ and ‘I Gotta Feeling’, the two songs which combined to break the Hot 100 record for the most consecutive weeks ever at No. 1 by one artist. Black Eyed Peas Top Billboard Hot 100 For Record 20 Straight Weeks

The Black Eyed Peas made history after ‘Boom Boom Pow’ and ‘I Gotta Feeling’ topped Billboard’s Hot 100 chart for 20 consecutive weeks at #1. ‘I Gotta Feeling’ took the top slot for eight weeks, while ‘Boom Boom Pow’ spent the prior 12 weeks at #1. This is the longest consecutive stay for an artist in the Billboard chart’s 51 year history.

“With this kind of success your ego wants to take all the credit but your heart reminds your soul that it was your heart that had you slaving and creating in the studio making the music; breaking through comfort zones and tradition. In the fight between heart and ego my heart always wins,” said will.i.am.

Fergie added, “Without everyone doing their part, the stars never would have aligned. This was a group effort, thank you to everyone who helped to keep these songs on top.”

will.i.am Responds To Perez Hilton Assault Allegation

will.i.am is responding to charges by Perez Hilton that the Black Eyed Peas rapper and his bodyguards assaulted him at an after party for Sunday night’s Much Music Video Awards in Toronto. Will said that Perez had insulted Fergie earlier in the night regarding her music, so he approached the gossip blogger to ask him to not be disrespectful of Fergie or the band. Perez then told Will he doesn’t respect the band and called him a fag. At that point, Will says some of his fans who were watching Perez shouting the slurs started going after Mario Lavandeira.
