P.O.D. and rapper Ja Rule combined to cover Bob Marley’s ‘Get Up Stand Up’ to open the new year on MTV’s New Year’s Eve special. Also on the special was Sean ‘P. Diddy’ Combs from his Miami Beach party, where Lil’ Bow Wow and Jermaine Dupri were on hand.
Marci Kenon of Launch.com spoke with Lil’ Bow Wow about his sophomore album, Doggy Bag, where he admits to playing a larger role in making the disc. The junior rapper said, “I feel like I have more input on this album. This time we try to turn it up a notch, because my fans are growing up along with me.”
Most acts were greatly helped by the week before Christmas buying rush so sales figures by Nas and Lil’ Bow Wow may look impressive in volume, but must be taken into context. ‘Stillmatic’ sold 342,000 copies to debut at number eight, while ‘Doggy Bag’ sold 319,000 copies for a number 11 opening. Wu-Tang Clan’s latest, ‘Iron Flag’, opened at 32 with 153,000 copies sold, with Jay-Z’s ‘MTV Unplugged’ right behind at number 34. ‘Ruff Ryders’ Ryde or Die Vol. III: In the “R” We Trust’ opened at number 38 and finally, ‘The Source Presents: Vol. 5–Hip-Hop Hits’ hit number 70.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports Lil’ Bow Wow held a free concert Friday at Atlanta’s City Hall. Or at least it was free if you carried a copy of his just released CD “Doggy Bag.” A maximum crowd of 3,000 was allowed to the event.
Hits Daily Double reports rappers Nas and Lil’ Bow Wow are both set to enter near the top of the charts after each artist dropped a new album on Tuesday. Nas’ Stillmatic looks to debut in the top 3 with 350,000 in sales while Lil’ Bow Wow’s Doggy Bag appears poised to sell well over 200,000. Still this doesn’t appear to be enough to stop the Creed megahit album ‘Weathered’ from topping the charts for a 5th straight week. Other rap discs show Ruff Ryders’ Ride or Die Vol. 3 clearing around 150k and Mystikal’s Tarantula and Jay-Z’s LiveMTV Unplugged selling around 125,000 each.

The New York Post is reporting Suge Knight has hip hop’s Jermaine Dupri, Dr. Dre, and Snoop Dogg running scared after his release from jail.
A source told the Post, “Suge is mad because he discovered Lil’ Bow Wow and when he was sent to jail, those three took [Lil’ Bow Wow] out of Death Row Records. Jermaine even produced Bow Wow’s last album.”
