Rap acts on television this week include Timbaland and Bubba Sparxxx, who both appear on BET’s 106 and Park on Monday; Sean ‘P. Diddy’ Combs, who appears on 106 and Park, Live with Regis and Kelly, and MTV’s Total Request Live on Tuesday; Northern State, who perform on Last Call with Carson Daly on Tuesday; Nappy Roots, who appear on BET’s 106 and Park on Wednesday; and Chingy, who performs on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno on Thursday.
*NSYNC star Justin Timberlake teamed up with Justin Timberlake on ‘Hootnanny’ and the rapper is backing his boy band bud to MTV News. “Anybody that hates on Justin is just a hater,” Sparxxx said. “You really can’t just hate on the kid. He’s a great person. He works hard and he has a great personality. What can you say about that kid? Big shout out to Justin, he’s a real great dude.” On the collaboration, he says, “We just went in the studio. Like, he sold 87 trillion records and I sold like, what, six, seven-hundred thousand? We just traded real to real. You do a verse on my album; I do a verse on yours. He came up with the hook and I came through with my most lethal verses. It’s dope song.” Read more.

In a recent interview with Reactmag.com Bubba Sparxxx talked about his upcoming release, ‘Deliverance,’ the porn actress who raps on one track, and told a road story about an encounter with a female that one must read to believe. Read more.
If searches on pay-per search engine Overture.com are any indication, you may want to stick a fork in Bubba Sparxxx’s career. The rapper only got 2,472 searches during the month of September. To put that into context, MC Hammer got 11,174! Vanilla Ice got 15,820! Despite jokes about Sisqo, even he got 23,612. But for whatever reason, *NSYNC star Justin Timberlake tabbed him to collaborate a track on his debut solo album — maybe that will help.
MTV News reports Justin Timberlake has teamed up with Bubba Sparxxx on the *NSYNC star’s debut solo album ‘Justified’, due out November 12. No doubt Bubba is hoping Timberlake returns the favor for his upcoming album, which is due to drop early next year. Read more.
MuchMusic spoke to Bubba Sparxxx who performed at Atlanta’s Midtown Music Festival last week. Bubba says that rappers in the South have been taking some risks that rappers elsewhere haven’t. “Honestly I think that people in the South aren’t scared to take some of the risks maybe in terms of being creative,” said Sparxxx. “Like if you look at Andre from Outkast, he’s certainly not scared to gamble and to take chances within the music, and Cee-Lo if ya’ll getting that yet up there. We’re just not scared to take chances and we don’t necessarily get caught up in how people perceive us, just like me taking my shirt off on stage. This is me this is how God made me, I’m going to ride it on out like this.”
Mark B of the BBC’s Radio 1 hosted a half hour documentary earlier today on hip hop sampling called ‘Black Market Breaks’. In the documentary Bubba Sparxxx and Ja Rule admit to knowing shamefully little about what they’re rapping over, and how New York break traders get top dollar out of Timbaland. This is some pretty insightful stuff, with some questionable sampling examples by Dr. Dre, Eminem, and Sean ‘P. Diddy’ Combs, amongst others. The documentary at bbc.co.uk/radio1 has since been removed.
Atlanta will be the place to be on May 3 – 5 as the 9th Annual Music Midtown Festival will be held. Top rap acts including Bubba Sparxxx, Ja Rule, and Mystikal will be amongst dozens of other artists performing on multiple stages.
Three men were stabbed, one of them critically, at a birthday bash for Bubba Sparxxx in Athens, Georgia early Wednesday morning. Chad Wilkes, an assistant manager for Sparxxx, said Sparxxx was ”very unhappy” about the assaults. Wilkes explained, “”When you throw something of this magnitude, people really don’t know how to act. Everybody comes out to see the big names, and I guess some of them want to show out.” Read more.
