Jim Farber of the New York Daily News reviewed Da Brat’s latest effort ‘Limelite, Luv & Nightclubz’. Farber writes, “The aptly named Brat’s latest CD is one of the funniest, best produced and most brusquely rapped albums of the year. Its rhymes surprise, its beats bounce, and Brat’s flow keeps running in fresh directions.”

Dave Meyers: Rappers Very Aware Of Their Audience

Music video director Dave Meyers spoke with Marilyn Beck and Stacy Jenel Smith about how after working with rap artists such as Missy Elliott, Outkast, Jay-Z and Da Brat, he says that, “rappers are generally very aware of their audience. If you can spend two minutes with them, you can usually quickly learn what they want, or you can kind of just look at their reputation and listen to their music and lyrics to know what they’re about.”

Da Brat And Mariah Carey To Team Up On Baby Girl

We haven’t heard much from Da Brat in the last few years, but she tells MTV News that she has big plans along with pal Mariah Carey. “I’ve just been working hard,” said Da Brat, who dropped her last LP, ‘Unrestricted, in 2000’. “Even though you ain’t been seeing me, I’ve been getting money on the low. I have my own little label and I have artists. Me and Mariah have a group coming out called Baby Girl, [and] it’s two girls. I’ve been doing a whole lot of stuff.” Read more.

So So Def Close To New Distribution Deal

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports Jermaine Dupri’s label, So So Def, is about to ink a new distribution deal with Arista Records, headed by part-time Antonio ‘L.A.’ Reid. He’ll take acts like Da Brat and budding singer Fundisha with him, but big-selling sprite Bow Wow and Atlanta R&B quartet Jagged Edge will remain at So So Def’s former home, Columbia Records.
