The New York Post reports that after he was released from prison early on good behavior, DMX made his first stop at Copeland’s Restaurant & Reliable Cafeteria on 145th Street, then the rapper/actor hit a barber shop in Harlem for a haircut. DMX (Earl Simmons) was accompanied by Tamara Conniff, co-executive editor of Billboard. “It’s not real,” Simmons complained of today’s hip-hop scene. “No one is saying anything. It’s not rap, it’s crap. There is no soul. I refuse to conform.”
AllHipHop.com reports that DMX was granted an early release from prison, after serving a month of a 70-day sentence for parole violation. The rapper was released from Rikers Island on Dec. 30, for good behavior and because he had accrued credit for time he previously spent incarcerated.
MTV News reports that DMX was given a 70-day sentence on Friday (November 18) for violating his parole and being late to court. He originally faced 60 days, but Judge Dorothy Chin-Brandt tacked on an extra 10 after he showed up late to court the day before. “She said his whole attitude has been terrible and one of disregard,” said his lawyer, Murray Richman. He said X told the court: ” ‘Forgive me. Sometimes you only see the movie star or the rap star, but there’s a person behind this all as well.'” Read more.
The Associated Press reports DMX pleaded guilty Tuesday to violating the terms of his release following a car crash last year at Kennedy Airport and faces 60 days in prison when he is sentenced next month, the Queens district attorney’s office.
AllHipHop.com reports that two men have filed complaints with police in Berlin, Germany, claiming that DMX assaulted them at Berlin’s Sage Club on September 16th. “I wanted to go to the bathroom and met DMX,” Oliver Osterode told German newspaper BZ. “I told him that I think he’s cool, but Lil Jon is better. Then he freaked out. He slapped me in the face, and then his bodyguards attacked us.”
DMX and Darryl McDaniels of Run-DMC attended the International Pool Tour World 8-Ball Championship at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino on Saturday (August 20) in Las Vegas, Nevada. The contest was the first-ever championship match between the best male and female pool players in the world and featured Mike Sigel vs. Loree Jon Jones. Sigel won the match to claim the top prize of $150,000 and Jones earned $75,000 as the runner-up – the biggest single payday in the history of the sport.
