Mike Shinoda On What’s Next

Before Mike Shinoda of Fort Minor and Linkin Park fame appeared on MuchOnDemand, MuchMusic.com pulled him aside to ask him a coupla questions. Asked what’s next for what was a side project from his Linkin Park duties. “I think that my focus right now is really on the Fort Minor record and promoting that,” he said. “At the same time I’m working on new Linkin Park music, which will be for an album that’s due out this year, and then obviously Styles Of Beyond and Holly Brook will be putting out their albums this year on Machine Shop Recordings. So we’ll be putting energy into making sure those are promoted and take off.”

This is quite the step away from what you would expect of Shinoda, as he leaves the formula that worked so well for him back with his bandmates and creates a whole new approach at music, sticking to traditional hip-hop. And instead of using his star power to conjure a star-studded list of featured producers, Shinoda takes the responsibility on by himself, creating every beat and playing nearly every instrument (from drums to strings) on The Rising Tied, adding a symphonic feel to album’s songs — something rarely seen in these MPC-laden times.
