SOHH caught up with Diggy Simmons to ask the young rapper if Lupe Fiasco’s troubles with Atlantic Records caused unease on his part since he’s signed to the label. “Nah, not at all because our situations are different; and obviously we know what happened, that’s stuff I can’t release, but I knew that our situations were completely different, especially with his album and with mine,” Diggy explained. Lupe Fiasco updated fans on his blog at MySpace (@lupefiasco) on Thursday (March 4), thanking those in New Zealand and Australia for attending shows on his Steppin’ Laser World Tour. The Chicago rapper writes:
A big “CHOICE” shout out to all the fans in New Zealand & Australia for coming out in a MASSIVE way and supporting the first leg of the STEPPIN’ LASER WORLD TOUR!!!

USA Network has announced the winners of the first-ever Character Approved Awards to honor individuals from a cross-section of creative disciplines who are positively influencing American culture. This years winner for Music is Chicago-born and raised hip-hop artist, Lupe Fiasco. “I’m an artist,” Lupe says in a profile clip. “An artist who just happens to rap.” He added that he hates the music business and the “super violent” records selling tens of millions of records, and his desire to be the balance on the other side. Lupe Fiasco checked in with fans on his YouTube channel to announce the breaking news of a new signing to his 1st & 15th label – Hey Champ. “I’d like to welcome him to the team, and also welcome you out there to Hey Champ. We’re gonna have an amazing ’09, and 2009 is mine and ours and the 1st & 15th crew.”

Footage of Lupe Fiasco receiving his Gold record for ‘The Cool’ at Atlantic Records in New York City has been posted at the Chicago hip hop artist’s YouTube channel. “We’re not just making records, we’re making history,” Lupe told the label’s employees. “I hope that we could just stay on this course, to not even sell records, but to sell positivity.
