Joseph ‘Rev. Run’ Simmons’ campaign to become bard of the Queens borough got a big boost from Donald Trump. “Rev. Run is my Shakespeare,” Trump told The New York Post’s Jeremy Olshan. “I’m from Jamaica, and in my mind, he already is the poet laureate of Queens.” Trump is just one of many powerbrokers and politicians calling on the selection committee to choose the Run-DMC rapper.

The New York Post reports famed Queens rapper Joseph ‘Rev. Run’ Simmons of Run-DMC wants to be the borough’s new poet laureate. “Run-DMC is synonymous with Queens and rap,” he told The Post’s Jeremy Olshan. “Naturally, I’d be honored to take the job.” Will the stodgy committee consider Simmons’ work as on par with that of Walt Whitman or W.B. Yeats? “We’re not going to throw out his application,” said David Cohen, the 94-year-old Queens College librarian managing the search.
