The Source Slams Russell Simmons

The Source magazine’s Dave Mays and Ray Benzino slammed Russell Simmons for allegedly pulling out of the mag’s voter education rally in Miami. “Russell Simmons has been exploiting hip hop for years,” the two said in a press release. “Russell is a serious threat to the advancement of the black community.” Simmons responded by telling The New York Daily News: “I mean them no ill will and wish them the best, and I hope I can still be a part of the process to promote healing between the artists and each other. But I was not committed to go their summit.”

Russell Simmons tells The New York Daily News that his wife Kimora’s recent arrest on a charge of reckless driving, in which a small amount of marijuana was allegedly found in her car, won’t be featured on his new Court TV program, ‘Hip-Hop Justice’. “We won’t be using Kimora,” said Simmons. “It’s too personal. But let me tell you, she was 100% innocent of all the charges, and we can prove there were absolutely no drugs.”

The New York Daily News reports while urban designers have dabbled in pink for years, most give credit for the boldness of the recent Pepto explosion to Harlem rapper Cam’ron. “At first, it was subtle,” said Nikki Strong, a marketing manager for menswear at Russell Simmons’ Phat Farm line, which introduced pink for guys several years ago. “Then we saw Cam’ron going crazy with it.”
