Blackelectorate.com expanded on their earlier commentary that caused backlash from fans of the ‘underground’ hip hop scene when artists like Jay-Z, Wu-Tang Clan, and hip hop mogul Suge Knight were praised. Cedric Muhammad writes, “What Jay-Z, people like Suge Knight, and Wu have done in their contracts and deals is not a classic example of greed or ‘capitalism’ as many hip-hop “purists” that don’t understand economics claim. Though far from perfect, it is actually quite revolutionary and a basic form of self-respect that they are exhibiting. Doesn’t hip-hop consciousness have an economic component?” Read more.
The New York Daily News reports Sean ‘P. Diddy’ Combs, Mary J. Blige and Missy Elliott were all listed as hosts Tuesday night at a birthday party for the mother of Puffy’s 7 year old son Justin, Misa Hylton Brim. All three ditched the party held at SoHo’s NV club where Suge Knight was onhand. Coincidence? Puffy’s rep says he was tied up in the studio and never planned on attending.
Suge Knight was on the Howard Stern show Wednesday morning and the rap mogul talked about Death Row, some of his rap rivals, the J.Lo sex tape, and what’s up with his own sex life. Suge said he’s seen the Jennifer Lopez sex tape and that it makes the Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee tape look like Rated PG material. Suge also claimed that 95% of rappers are gay but don’t know it. As for his own sex life, Suge was pretty silent. He basically denied ever having any women brought in for congigal visits during his prison term and he wouldn’t say if he’d every banged anyone famous. The stonewalling brought a sista’ to call in and accuse Suge of being a ‘fudge packer’. Suge did enjoy talking about food though on the broadcast, saying a burger was the first thing he went and got out of prison.
Well Suge Knight just completed another great interview with Carson Daly. This time Suge railed on the other labels that spawned during his jail time and took a few low blows at Puffy, hinting that he still may have a Jennifer Lopez porn tape. Suge recounted a story about Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg inviting Jay-Z to spend some time in LA, “And Dre and Snoop told him that, ‘When you on the west coast, you wrote a song for me, don’t worry ’bout nothin’.’ Next thing I know he’s taped up, robbed, and gagged.” Read on for the full transcript.
DaveyD.com reports Suge Knight went on the air Thursday to give an interview with Hot 97 in New York. By his side was Kurupt, ending speculation that Kurupt had decided to stay with Snoop’s label Dogghouse Records. Suge promised to return to Hot 97 on Monday along with Kurupt to give a full, all out interview and answer all questions about the ‘strangeness’ of this situation. Read more.
Well the interview on Thursday night with Suge Knight and Carson Daly was fantastic… So good in fact, Carson is going to have Suge on again on Monday. Of the many things Suge touched on was his relationship with 2pac Shakur. Knight talked about the loss saying, “It’s always the worst thing in the world to lose somebody that you care about, that you really care about. But if i could lose somebody i care about, I would rather be the person that talked to him, understand him, comfort him. Me and ‘Pac relationship wasn’t fake. It wasn’t a relationship where a rapper comes, and say Tupac’s name to get attention or to get applause. It was a situation where — separate from the music, I would rather have ‘Pac here not being involved in music or rapping than have him selling records after records after records, then him not being here.”
Chuck Philips of the Los Angeles Times reports that a federal racketeering probe into allegations Suge Knight and his Death Row Records label committed acts of murder, drug trafficking, money laundering and gunrunning resulted in him only getting a pair of misdemeanor tax charges. Suge said, “The truth is the truth. I appreciate the fact that, after looking into these lies and finding nothing, they had the integrity to say, ‘OK, this guy broke no law,’ and called it off,” adding “I’m not mad at the government. The government has a job to do, and I’ve come to respect the government when it does its work.”
Marion ‘Suge’ Knight’s official website for Death Row Records now has a splash page that takes a shot at ex-label act Dr. Dre. On the page, they show Dre sitting in a police station and blast, “The same nigga that used to sing “Fu** Tha Police” is now singing to the police.” They also refer to Dre as “Snitch” “Bitch” “Fake” and “Homo.”
The New York Post reports Suge Knight is close to signing TLC’s Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes to a recording contract as the singer is eager to ditch Arista Records. Lopes’ solo debut, “Supernova,” wasn’t released in the U.S. by Arista which made the singer furious. The singer will drop “Left Eye” for a new character called “NINA,” an acronym for a yet-to-be-disclosed phrase.
CDNow reports Snoop Dogg was upset over Suge Knight’s quote in the Mirror saying he “has a lot to learn about loyalty.” When confronted with the comment, Snoop snapped, “He said what? What did he say about me? I never heard that. I don’t read that magazine.”
