Hailing from Corona Crown City Queens, Creature has become well known as one of New York City’s fiercest MC’s. Though he was signed to a major label, Island Records, a decade ago as a part of the group Triflicts, Creature has gone the independent route since the group parted ways. He’s worked with an incredible array of artists including The Beatnuts, The X-Ecutioners, MF Doom and Atmosphere. He currently has his Never Say Die album available for sale and will be releasing a number of projects in the fall including another solo effort, Hustle To Be Free, and a collaboration with Preacherman called Creature N Preacher C.P.T. Grandmaster Flash is on the cover of Australia’s Beat magazine this week. The founder of the art of DJ’ing was asked which MC’s he was currently feeling. “As far as MC’s making a mark, I would say LL Cool J was the most consistent in history as he has survived decades of change,” he said. “I’m extremely fond of Nas. I like the way Big Brother are swinging their thing in the UK.” As for current DJs, he says, “I respect the X-Ecutioners. I love Roc Raida and Q-Bert. I had a chance to see Dexta last year as we were both in the UK. I was really happy with the way he did things.”

Curtis Ross of The Tampa Tribune spoke with X-Ecutioners Rob Swift on why the group collaborated with Linkin Park on ‘It’s Goin’ Down’. Swift revealed, “We thought, ‘Let’s draw their fan base into our world of DJing. Let’s reach those fans that go out and buy music, turn them on to the whole thing of what we do.’ We didn’t want to make a DJ album for other DJs. We wanted to make an album you could listen to whether you were a DJ or not, if you were black, white, in your teens, in your 40s. We wanted to bridge all those gaps.” The full story at tbo.com has since been removed.
Chris Penrose of wordmag.com spoke with the guys from the X-ecutioners, who have a major label release coming Tuesday from Loud/Sony. What prompted a major label to take a chance with them after 13 years together? “They’ve seen something in us that has potential the masses will gravitate to. If it wasn’t for the pioneers, we wouldn’t have the vision to take this to where we do,” says Total Eclipse.
