The Black Eyed Peas Wanted To Record In Australia spoke with will-i-am of BEP about the group’s love for Australia and the group’s plan to record their third album – the follow-up to Bridging The Gap, in Sydney. will-i-am said,
“We were gonna come out, we already had it set up, we called up our record company and they had us a house – I think it was near The Rocks – and we were gonna record it right in the house. We actually were gonna write in Australia. But the [record company] president over here in the States said no.” Why? “I don’t know – but it wasn’t a money issue, because it’s more expensive to record in New York and LA. I mean, I did my homework. It was more of a monitoring thing, they wanted to make sure we were not writing… I don’t know!”
