Asked if rap has become totally mainstream, he responded, “Hip-hop culture is totally mainstream. It’s an amalgamation of borrowed cultures. Its algebra equation is the sum of all things past. What’s old is new. The Dirty South sound is currently leading the way, and that’s a throwback sound to ’83 to ’86. It’s a revival that’s become the voice of this generation.”
