The New York Post reports Universal Music has canceled its post-Grammy bash amid fears that it would turn into a shootout between rival rappers. Recent violence triggered by rap star 50 Cent’s shunning of a record deal with Universal’s Murder Inc. label has execs on edge, sources close to the situation say. “It’s the first time in history they’ve caved to this stuff,” a tipster said. A company rep cited economic reasons, not fears of violence though. “That is ridiculous,” says the spokesman. “With the economy the way it is, it would seem insensitive to be hosting such a lavish affair, where there is an opportunity to do some good.”
