UPN Could Spin A Hit With ‘Platinum’

Brian Fisher of The Detroit News previewed Monday night’s premiere of ‘Platinum’, indicating that the hip hop inspired show “could be the breakout hit that the sixth-place network UPN has been longing for.” Fisher said the series “hits its most satisfying groove when it sticks with the complicated relationships between the family members and friends who work to keep Sweetback thriving. The violence portrayed, while it may be an accurate representation of incidents that have occurred within the hip-hop industry, just tends to feel contrived as we, along with the characters, aren’t sure whether to take the events seriously.”
