Despite a few successful rap tours over the years, rappers haven’t been able to beat the hair bands when it comes to filling amphitheaters. is out to change that with the 45-city Rock the Mic tour. “I noticed that every year big rock tours were going out, but in rap we didn’t have one,” Jigga tells Jennifer Ordonez of Newsweek. Jay says he wants to turn Rock the Mic into an annual lifestyle festival, hip-hop nation’s Lollapalooza. Part of the challenge facing the genre is making hip-hop as interesting to watch as it is to listen to.
