Noah “Xaphoon Jones” Beresin of Chiddy Bang spoke with The Daily Texan in a Q&A, where he talked about the alternative hip-hip duo’s love for Austin, what fans can expect from their live show, releasing their first studio album ‘Breakfast’ later this year, recording the project in London, how he and bandmate Chidera “Chiddy” Anamege, and more.
“You can expect the usual oddball samples, but you can expect them to be deeper and a little bit unknown,” Jones said about ‘Breakfast’. “The sampling choice is going to be a lot less obvious, and the sound is going to be a little bit more polished. Like a lot of songs from artists, we’re adding background to the songs. Things that make the songs sick and rich, so compared to our earlier stuff, which is ‘laptop in the bedroom’ kind of sound.”
Chiddy Bang is taking Glastonbury by storm, and Parlophone was there to capture the behind the scenes action. “A lot of you are probably wondering yo, what is Chiddy Bang doing at Glastonbury? I don’t even know. We just here. We in the UK. Chiddy Bang, you all know what the music is. They say yo bro, you gonna be spittin that sh**?” Watch the clip via YouTube below.
Chiddy Bang sat down with DJ Skee on KIIS FM in Los Angeles to talk about the groups name, their albums style of music and how they got their music heard. “We’re trying to stay true to what kinda got us here, which is like chopping up lots of samples and doing lots of collabs with indie artists, but at the same time when we were making all those old records,” Xaphoon Jones explained in regards to the sound of their upcoming debut album ‘Here We Go’. “We just had a laptop on a mic, and now were have the studio time and the drums and the keyboards and the whole horn section and strings so we’re musically gonna take it to the next level.” Watch the interview via YouTube below the cut. Chiddy Bang and his sidekick Xaphoon Jones spoke with OC Weekly about how their collaboration morphed from playing basement gigs at Philadelphia colleges to doing similar gigs in other states. “College kids would call us up and be, like, ‘Hey, my friends go to college in Maine. Will you play our basement for a hundred bucks, plus gas?'” Jones told Brandon Ferguson. Chiddy added, “Everything started stretching out to Maine and New Hampshire. That’s when we started thinking we had something.” That something turned into a record deal with EMI as the duo prep their debut studio album for release later this year. Read more.
AOL’s Popeater spoke with Chiddy Bang’s Chidera “Chiddy” Anamege and Noah Beresin, aka Xaphoon Jones in a Q&A, asking the Philadelphia hip hop duo what their creative process is like as a duo and whether they write lyrics first or lay down the beats.
Xaphoon: The beats first, definitely. I make something, chop it up. I’ll make a bunch of beats, send it to him.
Chiddy: Then whatever I feel like is dope, whatever inspires me, I’ll write to. It’s usually a very collaborative process. He’ll be working on a beat and I’ll start coming up with cadence or coming up with lines. He’ll be like, what if you said this and I’ll be like, what if you added that.
Xaphoon: With him, it’s like the two-second rule. If his eyes go crazy in two seconds, I know it’s going to be a good song. And if they don’t, I know I’ve gotta go back to the lab and work on it until they do.
