Nardwuar interviewed Jay-Z at The Pemberton Music Festival in Vancouver, British Columbia a few months ago. The rapper talked about how Pharrell Williams pushed him to set up the interview with the oddball Canadian personality before explaining his biography, his appearance on the JAZ album back in the day, the importance of repetition, the legal story behind ’99 Problems’, the Glastonbury Festival flare up with Oasis, and offered a plea for the Canadian customs to ease up a bit. A source tells The Mirror’s 3AM that during Jay-Z’s trip to Nigeria for the Africa Rising gig, the rapper requested a watermelon carved out in the shape of his wife Beyonce’s breasts. “One giant watermelon was split in two and ornately carved into a mold of Beyonce’s boobs,” the tipster claimed. “Two cherries were used as nipples.”
After hearing Noel Gallagher had said he “liked” Jay-Z, despite criticizing over his Glastonbury headlining gig, MTV Base spoke with the rapper about the apparent feud. “I haven’t spoken to him,” Jay-Z said. “I heard he was reaching out, but I haven’t spoken to him.” Though Jigga dissed Oasis at the event, he said he’d be open to working with the veteran British rock group. “Anyone. Oasis as well – it doesn’t matter to me,” he said. “I don’t bear any grudge, it’s all good. I just believe in good music and bad music, I’ve always said that. You look at any interview from the beginning of time, I’ve always stated that I don’t believe in the lines and classifications that people put music in so they can easily define it.”
Tim Westwood of 1Xtra interviewed Jay-Z backstage at Glastonbury 2008 over the weekend, where they spoke about the controversy surrounding Jay headlining the music festival. “Sometimes remarks are made out of ignorance,” Jay said of Oasis singer Noel Gallagher’s complaints. “If Noel Gallagher had seen me performed and he said that, I’d understand. That’s a personal opinion, and I can’t have no bearing on how he feels. It’s just personal taste. But he’s never seen me perform, I’m sure, or else he wouldn’t say that. We’ll see what happens after tonight though.” He added, “For the most part, everybody’s ready. I thought it would be the old guard vs. the new guard. But it’s really not like that. Right now, every single person I’ve seen has been very excited about the show.” Watch the interview below.
After it was announced in February that Jay-Z would top the Glastonbury bill, Noel Gallagher of Oasis was vocal in his opposition to the move. “Glastonbury has a tradition of guitar music. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it,” he said. “I’m sorry but Jay-Z? No chance. I’m not having hip-hop at Glastonbury. It’s wrong.” Jay responded to the criticism Saturday night by performing the Oasis hit ‘Wonderwall’ to open his set. Watch it at YouTube.

When people start talking about the greatest emcees of all-time the usual cast of characters is brought up. KRS-One, Rakim, 2Pac, Biggie, etc., all get mentioned. Older fans, like myself, will bring up Slick Rick and The Fresh Prince, while younger fans will point to Jay-Z, Eminem and Nas. There’s one artist that seemingly NEVER gets mentioned, though, and it’s someone who has long deserved to be in the discussion… Read the full story at: adambernard.blogspot.com.
