The Sun’s Something For The Week caught up with Outkast’s Andre 3000 and Big Boi for a Q&A, where the duo were asked about the rumor they don’t get along and prefer to record separately. “We’ve been hearing it since ‘Stankonia’,” Big Boi responded. “A lot of people just get the outside appearance mixed up. Some might take Andre not going on the road as a sign but those are our preferences. No friction, no beef. We just go through the same things any regular relationship goes through. We’ve known each other a long time so friendship-wise it’s all a bunch of nonsense people sensationalising a story. It doesn’t really upset me but you do feel like slapping the sh** out of these people who say it. It’s just not true.” Read more.

Outkast took home the Group Artist of 2004 award at last night’s Billboard Awards in Las Vegas. They also nabbed Hot 100 Duo/Group, Billboard 200 Duo/Group, R&B/Hip-Hop Duo/Group, and for the second year in a row, digital track of the year for ‘Hey Ya’, for a total of five Billboard awards. Big Boi said upon accepting the honors: “First and foremost, I want to thank Billboard for having us all here tonight. Just want to say, this is for my boys who are in London working on the movie. This one here goes to all the fans who supported us and supported our music. Yeah.”
With plans next year for a clothing range, and deals on the way for other projects, including a big-screen adventure, singing ‘n’ dancing dolls, and a perfume line, Outkast are hitting the big time. “We’ve spent years getting to this level and we’ve always said that the whole Outkast concept will be a lifestyle choice – but the music’s still closest to my heart,” Andre 3000 told Neil Sean of Sky News. And the side projects hasn’t meant they’ve forgot the music. Look for a new album in Spring 2005.
Usher swept the American Music Awards on Sunday, winning all four categories in which he was nominated. Other winners included OutKast with three awards, singer/songwriter Sheryl Crow with two nods, as well as rock band Linkin Park for favorite alternative music artist and Alicia Keys for favorite female artist (soul/R&B).
HBO is making a film based on the Outkast CD ‘Speakerboxxx/The Love Below’ and one insider tells The Scoop that “they are having some major problems” on the set. “They’re weeks behind production and millions of dollars over budget,” the source revealed to Jeannette Walls of MSNBC.com. Read more.
