Launch.com reports Method Man, Redman with Stephen and Damian Marley, Capone-N-Noreaga with Lexxus, Cam’ron with Buju Banton, and Scarface and Nokio of Dru Hill with T.O.K. are some of the rap-reggae collaborations featured on the ‘Red Star Sounds Vol. 3: Def Jamaica’ which will be released in August.
Rap acts appearing on talk television this week include Lil Kim’, who stops by Last Call with Carson Daly on Wednesday; Talib Kweli stops by Last Call on Thursday; and Jimmy Kimmel Live will host Def Squad featuring Redman, Erick Sermon and Keith Murray.
The New York Post reports Ashanti, Ja Rule, and Redman are playing a one-night-only gig at the Huntington Townhouse on Thursday free-of-charge to families of America’s soldiers overseas.
MTV.com reports that Christina Aguilera will assist Carson Daly in hosting this year’s Mardi Gras celebration on Bourbon Street. Special guest performances will feature Master P and Lil’ Romeo, as well as Method Man and Redman.
Blender magazine spoke with Redman and asked him what was the least rockin’ city he’s been to. The rapper sidestepped saying, “I don’t really want to jeopardize anything. Just put down ‘What city scares the sh** out of you?’ instead. I tell you, it’s that goddamned Seattle. I don’t fu**in’ know. I went upu and rocked those motherfu**ers before, and it was spooky. Real spooky.”

Method Man tells Launch.com that he and partner Redman have no plans to do another How High movie. “Right now, Doc (Redman is) doing the music thing,” Meth said. “I’m doing the music thing and a little outside projects, and we’re just looking at scripts right now. That’s it. Nothing written in concrete yet and ain’t gonna be no ‘How High 2’, if I got anything to say about it.” Method Man is working on a new album tentatively titled ‘The Prequel’, which is due in 2003.
Melissa from MTV’s ‘The Real World’ was at the Shaqtacular event on Sunday, where she spoke with Redman and Coolio. On Redman she commented, “He’s all I need to get by, even though that was a Meth song. I wanted to ask him about his deodorant commercial because I tend to be interested in random things that celebrities do, but I didn’t. He smells nice, and I wonder if he wears that deodorant that he hawks.”
Now that Philadelphia 76ers guard Allen Iverson has his own record label, he may try to reel in his favorite artist Redman. He tells Vibe magazine, “He’s a special artist. He used to get me hyped, but now I’m so much of a fan, he really doesn’t get me hyped up anymore. I just like listening to him. I love ‘Doc’s da Name’.
Searches for Redman for the month of February on pay-per search engine Overture.com were fairly brisk, but nowhere near top rappers Ja Rule and Ludacris. Redman got 14,844 searches for the month, while his partner on wax, Method Man, got 23,243 searches. Searches for both artists tended to mix both names, while searching for Redman may get you information on the chewing tobacco or manufactured homes, amongst other matches.
