On September 6th, Xzibit and Ryan Ford of The Source threw their second Rhyme Night in three months. This time the event was held on a Saturday, which I think brought more attendees. The event started off with Dj Choc from Power 106 in Los Angeles, spinning nice tunes for the crowd to dance and get into the mood for the hip hop which was coming. After much anticipation, multi-platinum rapper Xzibit’s Open Bar Entertainment and Contrabandit.com have finally announced the dates for the next Rhyme Night, the country’s premier hip-hop talent showcase and its accompanying audition.
AllHipHop.com reports that Xzibit was attacked by a group of alleged Mexican gang members as he left a restaurant last weekend and required 50 stitches after being struck with a 40 ounce bottle. A spokesman for the rapper confirmed, “He got into an altercation and was hit with a bottle. He got some stitches and is recovering, but he will be fine and his career is not in jeopardy.”
Xzibit was happy to talk with Beat magazine of Australia about that incident at Bondi Beach where he reportedly got caught in a rip and had to be rescued. So are the stories true? “It depends on what story’s out, ’cause it’s turning into everything else – like they had to bring Baywatch out and a boat and they had to give me CPR, fu** all that!,” he laughed. “Nah, I didn’t have to get rescued, if that’s the sh**… I’m glad everybody’s getting a kick out of me almost dying – that tells me a lot about my fans and about people in general. Thanks! Ha, ha, ha!”
This week’s edition of Fly Screen featured interviews with Big Day Out acts including Xzibit. They talk about ‘Man Vs. Machine’, working with Dr. Dre — whom he calls the Quincy Jones of hip hop. As for working with Eminem in ‘8 Mile’, he says acting is cool and second nature for him. X even did an impersonation of Eminem, a pretty good one at that. As for his appearance on the Weakest Link, he was asked who his weakest link was. X says there is no one weakest link, and he whined about Young MC beating him on the reality show. Sydney Confidential reports Xzibit had to be rescued by lifeguards on Monday at Bondi Beach in Australia. Although he was between the flags, Xzibit found himself caught in a rip and had to be rescued by a lifesaver who helped him on to a board and took him back to shore, much to the rapper’s appreciation.
